So with all of the craziness of summer I decided to skip last week's menu planning, thinking that life might be easier if I have a little less planning to do.... oh, how wrong I was!!! Time to get back to it, and with four new-to-me recipes, too!

My kids' summer bucket lists...
The other day, I got a phone call from my mom suggesting that I have the kids write up summer bucket lists. They gave me some pretty funny stuff:
O's cover
Rye's list:
- go to the pool
- cook a lot!
- ride my bike!
- spend a lot of time with my family!
- go to the park!
- spend a lot of time outside
- spend a lot of time with my mom!
- have sleepovers with Mackenzie!
- spend time with Lily"
Moo's list:
- make milkshake
- Disneyland
- go to the mall
- have a sleepover
- plant a tree
- get a girls' day
- make cookies
- get cows to come over from Aunt Holly's so we can have some milk
- go to the pool
- go to the park
- go to Grandma's"
"O's summer bucket list
- blow out citronella torches
- drink milkshake
- play at the park with Puppy Gramma
- play on Mommy's phone
- go to "rocket ship" park again
- make necklaces
- eat with Miss Ginny (our neighbor)
- make s'mores with Kitty Gramma
- decorate shirts (my suggestion: tie-dye!)
- make kites (original thought: 'make paper Christmas trees')
- make paper tables
- go to the zoo (and see the snakes)
- draw something
- play with my toys
- run around
- play with roly-polies
- look for bunnies in the clouds and sky
- eat pepperonis not on pizza
- play with water
- go swimming
- drink lemonade (and juice)
- play with Jack and Lily
- plant plants
- fly like birds ('you say, "how are we gonna fly?" ...with airplanes!')
- play with Mommy
- play with a lot of people
- let's cook!
- cook hot dogs
- sleep and just go to bed (jammie day)
- make bracelets
- drive to Kitty Gramma's house
- garden
- ride bike"
...so I guess we won't run out of things to do over summer break between their lists, my mom's list and mine...
...oh, and I found this in the garden a couple of days ago...
...it was delicious...
...we split it five ways...

This week's menu...
Well, I'm finding that menu planning during the summer isn't so easy - obviously... my last two menu planning posts were very late!!! At least this one is only a couple of hours late...
Monday: steak and broccoli (with a side of cottage cheese, yum!)
...this week's menu...
Tuesday: brats with corn and onion potatoes - I grew up eating these potatoes pretty much every time my mom and I went camping or cooked out. I'll have to post a how-to for the potatoes when I make 'em.... they're soooo goooood!
Wednesday: summer spaghetti (possibly subbing linguine for spaghetti)
Thursday: roasted chicken with peas and wild rice
Friday: pizza night
Saturday: picante chicken and rice
Sunday: leftovers

This week's menu...
**(I wrote this on Monday, planning to get a picture of my menu planner -as I usually would-, but that just hasn't happened yet... so this is what my family has eaten most of the week... prepare yourself, it's been a lazy one so far)**
Oh, man... end of the school year... I don't know if I'm ready for this... Especially the big one's pre-pre-teen attitude... it's all too much!!!
On a happy note, the garden is doing wonderfully (overall) and I didn't have to go grocery shopping thanks to my generous in-laws (thanks again, you guys!)... it's really helpful, but I feel like I need to take inventory of our fridge/freezer/pantry in order to get any real menu planning done. So, of course, rather than looking to see what we have, I went off of my memory (which means we'll be eating a lot of chicken)...
...this week's menu...
Thursday: mushroom stroganoff over wild rice blend
Friday: Pizza night
Saturday: chicken thighs with corn/potato mash
Sunday: Go out???
...lots of chicken, I know, but it'll do for now.
Hopefully, I'll have a pantry organizing post coming your way soon. Until then...
